Honouring Life and Strengthening Support: Suicide Prevention Wānanga with Tūwharetoa Health and Te Hapori Ora

October 9, 2024

Yesterday, Tūwharetoa Health, in collaboration with Te Hapori Ora, hosted a significant Suicide Prevention Wānanga, tailored specifically for kaimahi who work tirelessly on the frontlines of community wellbeing. This dedicated space fostered rich and meaningful discussions, where kaimahi shared their expertise and experiences, deepening their capacity to provide critical support to whānau impacted by suicide.

A profoundly moving moment during the wānanga was the heartfelt waiata performed by the McLaughlin Rangatahi. With deep aroha and respect, this tribute honoured the memory of those lost to suicide, while acknowledging the grief that continues to touch many. Their waiata was a powerful expression of both the pain of loss and the strength of whānau, providing a moment of reflection, healing, and unity.

The unwavering commitment of the kaimahi was evident throughout the day, as they actively engaged in learning and kōrero, focused on enhancing their support for whānau and communities navigating the complex journey of suicide prevention. This wānanga underscored the vital importance of collective action and the need for strong, connected, and resilient communities as we walk together toward greater wellbeing.
